Race Verdict

ROCK ON RUBY only managed third to Spirit Son in the big novice race over C&D at this meeting 12 months ago but he has improved markedly this season, winning the Gerry Feilden by a street before pushing Binocular close at Kempton and landing the Champion Hurdle in great style at Cheltenham last month. The step back up in distance looks certain to suit Paul Nicholls' 2010 Neptune runner-up and he can see off last year's one-two, Oscar Whisky and Thousand Stars, who both drop in trip after finishing a respective fifth and fourth behind Big Buck's in the World Hurdle. Betfair Hurdle hero Zarkandar, who got going all too late when fifth in the Champion, tackles 2m4f for the first time today and the way he goes about his business suggests it will be right up his street.

Selection: Rock On Ruby        Danger: Oscar Whisky        Alternative: Thousand Stars
