Race Verdict

FURY deserves to land a decent handicap after running so well under topweight in the Lincoln (third) and the Newbury Spring Mile (second). He ran into a supremely well handicapped horse in Captain Bertie last time and should have no problems with this extra furlong on rain-softened ground. Proponent, a proven performer in these ultra-competitive handicaps, enters calculations in no uncertain terms on his final run of last season when third in the Cambridgeshire. He's tough and solid. Memory Cloth won in the style of a potentially well-handicapped horse at Thirsk a week ago and could be a danger in this much better race, whilst Dick Doughtywylie should be all the better for his comeback run.

Selection: Fury        Danger: Proponent        Alternative: Memory Cloth
