Race Verdict

The fact Philip Hobbs brings just one horse, JOSEPH MERCER, on the 950-mile round trip from his Minehead base up to Scotland looks a tip in itself. A winner between the flags, he left his debut in this sphere well behind when chasing home the useful Jump City over 2m3f at Newton Abbot last time and any further improvement is sure to see him in the thick of the action tonight. Kris Cross and Nodda High Kid both displayed a fair amount of ability in bumpers, indeed the latter beat subsequent Albert Bartlett winner Brindisi Breeze on debut, and make plenty of appeal first time over timber.

Selection: Joseph Mercer        Danger: Kris Cross        Alternative: Nodda High Kid
