Mahsoob got his career back on track when overcoming a 235-day absence to take Group Three honours in the Weatherbys General Stud Book Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket.

Absent since disappointing at both Newmarket and York in the summer after winning his first three starts in 2015, the five-year-old looks set for a successful campaign judged on this effort.

Air Pilot set out to make all and did not give up the lead without a fight when Paul Hanagan produced the John Gosden-trained Mahsoob (100-30) to make his bid in the final quarter-mile.

However, Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Dansili entire proved too strong in the last 100 yards and got the verdict by a length and a quarter to give both owner and jockey a double after the success of Ibn Malik in the Free Handicap.

Tullius stayed on well for third, a length and a half away.
