Prize money and bonus schemes

Your horse has just won or has been placed in a race. So, what happens next?

We take care of this process; something we do for around 9,000 races each year.

Collection and payment of prize money – or the “Stakesbook” process as it is still known – is one of Weatherbys’ oldest core functions, dating back over 250 years to our founder, James Weatherby.

The Stakesbook Team ensures that owners’ entry fees, as well as racecourse and Levy Board contributions to prize money, are collected and distributed to successful connections of the winning and placed horses in accordance with the Rules of Racing.

Prize money is usually credited to Weatherbys Bank/BHA accounts fifteen days after the race, once the mandatory drug tests are completed.

The Great British Bonus (GBB) is an industry incentive scheme that offers multiple bonuses of up to £20,000 per eligible race for British-bred fillies and mares. Its aim is to increase the number of British-bred horses in racing and, so, safeguard the future of British breeding.

GBB is for breeders, owners and winning connections of British-bred Flat and Jump fillies and mares who race successfully in Britain and was devised and implemented by The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (TBA).

It aims to ensure that more British-bred fillies and mares are sought as racehorses, while encouraging breeders to race fillies and owners to retain them. This will support the economics of Thoroughbred production and selection for breeding on the basis of proven racing ability at all levels.

The GBB Scheme is administered by Weatherbys.
