Three-year-olds are not something that most associate with the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster but with previous Classic winners coming from the sale and a number of talented horses winning during their Classic season this year – that’s starting to change.
3YOs such as this season’s triple Group 1 Oaks placed Architecture show that this sale is producing Classic performing horses. And the fact that all the sale’s leading 3YOs this season won last year demonstrates that these horses are sharp enough to win as juveniles and train on into their Classic season. Other leading 3YOs include Stakes and Group winners Easton Angel, Humphrey Bogart, Tasleet, Log Out Island, the Royal Ascot Group 1 Commonwealth Cup second Kachy etc.
The 2016 catalogue will offer a number of well-bred horses that look to have Classic credentials but importantly are in keeping with the sale’s founding principal – that being that they are mature and athletic types. Some of the highlights include:
- Lot 31, an Iffraaj colt out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner and Champion Older Horse FREE EAGLE and Gr.2 winners CUSTOM CUT and SAPPHIRE.
- 57, a Le Havre colt out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club winner BLUE CANARI.
- 113, a Mastercraftsman filly out of the Stakes winning mare CITY IMAGE and from the family of the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner ELUSIVE WAVE.
- 210, a Zoffany filly from the family of the Champion 3YO and Gr.1 St Leger winner KINGSTON HILL.
- 231, a Canford Cliffs half-brother to Aileen's Gift, dam of the Gr.1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner SAMITAR and from the family of the Champion 3YO GOLDEN OPINION.
- 248, a Bated Breath colt out of a half-sister to the Champion 3YO and Gr.1 winner RIP VAN WINKLE.
- 250, a Nathaniel filly out of the Stakes placed mare Lacy Sunday and from the family of the Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas winners HENRYTHENAVIGATOR and MAGICIAN.
- 341, an Exceed and Excel colt out of a Giant's Causeway own-sister to the Gr.1 2000 Guineas winner and sire FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND.
- 366, a Camelot colt out of a Pivotal own sister to the Gr.1 Lockinge Stakes winner VIRTUAL.
- 429, a Sea The Stars colt out of a Raven’s Pass half-sister to the Stakes winner ARMY OF ANGELS.
- 430, a filly by Oasis Dream out of the Stakes winning Dalakhani mare SOUVIENS TOI.
- 453, a Zebedee colt out of a Danehill Dancer half-sister to Forest Storm, dam of the Gr.1 2000 Guineas winner NIGHT OF THUNDER.
- 447, a Dawn Approach colt out of an Invincible Spirit mare and from the family of the Champion 3YO and Gr.1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner MARLING and the Champion 3YO and Gr.1 winner MARWELL.
The Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale will be held on Tuesday 23 & Wednesday 24 August and will be followed by the Silver Yearling Sale on Thursday 25 August.
