Goffs UK has appointed Australian Tony Williams Managing Director of the Auction House. Tony will take up his position on 7th October but will attend next week’s Premier Yearling Sale to meet vendors and purchasers, and get a feel for Goffs UK at the flagship sale of the Doncaster year.

Tony is superbly qualified for the role with 40 plus years in the industry and having worked for Magic Millions for nine years to 2012 before taking a key role in the set-up of respected Australian farm, Newgate Stud whilst he has also been an agent to the Hong Kong Jockey Club in connection with the Hong Kong International Sale since 2000.

Commenting on the appointment, Goffs Group Chief Executive, Henry Beeby said: “Tony Williams brings a wealth of experience to Goffs UK and we are confident he will prove a valuable addition to our passionate team. A respected horseman, Tony is also a natural leader as well as a genuine ‘people person’ which is crucial for an Auction House. His long career, and the respect in which he is held in his home country, will give him the ideal platform to contribute to the growth and development of Goffs UK over the next decade. At the same time he is very much a fresh face to the European market and will be able to apply his experience to the sales at Doncaster whilst I have no doubt he will quickly make a strong connection with our many clients. I look forward to working with him and can’t wait for him to get started”

Tony leaves Newgate Stud after four productive years and Managing Director, Henry Field is sad to see him go: "Tony and I have been working side by side from virtually the conception of Newgate and he has been pivotal both in its growth and its success. It will be a sad day when he leaves, however I am very excited by the new opportunity Goffs UK have presented him and have no doubt he will be huge success in this new endeavour. He is a good operator and a good friend, and the entire team at Newgate we wish him all the very best".

Whilst leaving home in Australia and Newgate Farm, having been involved since it branched into standing stallions, is a big move, accepting the Goffs UK role was an easy decision for Tony who said: “In the world of Thoroughbred Auction Houses Goffs is a revered name. I am honoured by the appointment and can’t wait to start developing relationships with buyers, vendors and the Goffs UK team who have developed a strong business model. My excitement about the company and drive to succeed in this business is second to none so this is an opportunity to excel, implement a lifetime of experience and assist in the growth of Goffs UK with a dynamic team. If our clients are successful, we will be successful and I make it clear that we will strive to achieve in all areas with success, growth and strong relationships.”
