Chepstow's Coral Welsh Grand National meeting on Sunday remains in doubt after further rain hit the track on Christmas Day.

Clerk of the course Keith Otteson called a precautionary inspection at 8am for Saturday following 10 millimetres of rain on Thursday and reports conditions have not improved.

The course remains heavy, waterlogged in places with more rain forecast ahead of the big fixture.

"We've had eight millimetres of rain this morning and there is no improvement from Thursday, so we are still waterlogged in places," said Otteson.

"There's still some uncertainty about the weather for the next two days so we'll stick by the inspection on Saturday morning and take it from there.

"There's rain due overnight tonight and there is uncertainty about a band of rain around on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

"If we got rain overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, once that moves through we could do with it being dry through to Sunday. If it isn't dry we are going to struggle.

"There is so much uncerttainty about this weather front, whether it comes back down to us or not.

"We will update tomorrow to see what we get, but we had 10mm yesterday and another eight this morning so there has been no improvement."
