Douvan takes on three at Leopardstown

Douvan stars in a small but select field for the Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Unbeaten since arriving at Willie Mullins' yard from France, the five-year-old struck twice at the top table during his novice hurdle campaign and gave every indication he can rise to that sort of level over the larger obstacles when successful on his first crack at fences at Navan.

Henry de Bromhead's Sizing John heads the opposition and arguably sets the standard over fences thanks to last month's triumph in the Craddockstown Novice Chase, but he was put firmly in his place by Douvan on no less than three occasions last term.

Like Sizing John, Ttebbob is two from two over fences and landed a Grade Three recently.

The field is completed by easy Naas scorer Velvet Maker, who was a long way behind Douvan in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

Jockey Robbie Power has high hopes for the Jessica Harrington-trained Ttebbob , in what he admits is a red-hot contest.

He told At The Races: "It's a fantastic race, there's not just Douvan, Sizing John has been very impressive, too, and Velvet Maker was very impressive.

"It's in no way a two-horse race, but hopefully if my lad gets into a good rhythm, whatever gets past going down to the last will be a very good horse."
