This afternoon's meeting at Carlisle will go ahead after being given the green light earlier than planned.

Officials announced an inspection for 8am after being hit by further rain on Saturday, but acting clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch was able to give the card the go-ahead over an hour earlier than scheduled.

He said: "We're going ahead. It's going to be heavy ground, but it's raceable, which is the main thing."

The racecourse is doing its bit to support the flood-hit region by offering free admission to this afternoon's fixture.
