Altior maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles with a stylish success in the William Hill On Your Mobile Novices' Hurdle at Kempton.

Having posted wins at Chepstow, Ascot and most recently in a Grade Two contest at Cheltenham, the Nicky Henderson trained five-year-old took his record to four from four with victory in the two-mile contest.

Paul Nicholls' Marracudja, bidding for a hat-trick, took the field along at a moderate pace until passed by both the strong-travelling Open Eagle and the 11-8 favourite at the penultimate flight.

Chances of a battle between the pair were quickly dashed as Altior raced into a decisive advantage between the last two once called on for maximum effort.

Jumping the last boldly, Nico de Boinville had the luxury of easing down Altior, with pair coasting home 13 lengths to the good over Open Eagle.

The winner was cut to 8-1 from 20-1 by Paddy Power for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, while William Hill went 10-1 from 16-1.

Henderson said: "I'd say that was quite impressive as the right horses finished second and third. It was probably a pretty solid performance.

"He jumped well, in his previous races he had been quite keen but that stronger pace helped.

"He is a very talented horse and always has been. We mucked around in bumpers last year. The whole idea was to get some runs on the board to see how far he can go, which we know now.

"We can afford to put him away and something like the Dovecote will suit him along the way. That seems the obvious way of doing it."
