Rain set to ease ground conditions ahead of Kempton's Boxing Day fixture

The ground at Kempton for their big Boxing Day meeting should be no worse than soft despite rain on Christmas Day.

Clerk of the course Barney Clifford described the going as good to soft, soft in places on Friday morning though he was expecting rain before the weather turns dry for the two-day William Hill Winter Festival.

Clifford reports the track to be in "great condition" for the Boxing Day meeting that features the William Hill King George VI Chase.

"We had three millimetres of rain yesterday afternoon. It's still good to soft, soft in places but we are forecast another band of rain today which inevitably will ease things," he said.

"Overall it's in great condition. We're going to be racing on fresh ground and had we been racing on the ground we've had three fixtures on it would be easier.

"We are forecast two dry days, Boxing Day and the 27th, but there is rain pushing in today and it will be damp. Let's see what happens.

"It will be good to soft, soft in places or it will be soft."
