74.4% of the horses on offer on the third and penultimate day of the Breeding Stock Sale found new homes but they average price took a 21% dip at €8,831 and resulted in the day’s aggregate slipping 22% at €1,722,000.

Foals made up the day’s leading podium with a trio exceeding €40,000. First through the ring was a January-born colt by Haras d’Etreham’s Wootton Bassett (lot 606), offered by Hervé Lair’s Ecurie des Trois Rivières. From the extended family of Pilsudski and Youmzain, the colt who shares his sire with European three-year-old champion Almanzor was knocked down for €45,000 to MAB Agency.

Half an hour later, another colt by the same sire (lot 616) commanded €40,000 from Meridian International. From the draft of Amélie Ehrnrooth and Philippe Lybeck’s Haras de Bourgeauville, the bay is the first foal out of an unraced half-sister to a Stakes winner, hailing from the family of Gr.2 Sun Chariot Stakes scorer Danceabout.

Gwenaël Monneraye and Lucie Lamotte’s La Motteraye Consignment offered the highest-priced filly of the session in lot 685, a daughter of Dawn Approach out of an unraced half-sister to the Gr.3 Princess Margaret Stakes African Skies. Anglo Irish Stable had the last word at €42,000 for the January-born filly.

The sale continues on Tuesday with the addition of National Hunt foals, fillies and mares.
