Stallion Book Snippets: The versatile young stallion has an interesting background, having been bred in Japan by Katsumi Yoshida, by sending Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes winner Hilda’s Passion to top international sire Hearts’ Cry.

He was bought by John McCormack on behalf of WinStar Farm for 94 million yen, around $750,000, at the JRHA Select Sale and shipped to the US to be trained by Bill Mott under a name that paid tribute to the first family of Japanese racing.

Yoshida won five of his 18 starts, four in stakes company, including top-level strikes in the Old Forester Turf Classic on grass and Woodward Stakes on dirt.

He is one of ten progeny of Heart’s Cry to have won a Group/Grade 1 race and is among four of those who did so outside of Japan, along with Admire Rakti, Just A Way and Lys Gracieux.

Yoshida will stand at WinStar Farm in Kentucky at a fee of $15,000 in 2021.
