Argocat nearing debut run for Nicky Henderson

Argocat could make his start since joining Nicky Henderson at either Sandown or Musselburgh this weekend.

The eight-year-old won five times after joining Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning Irish trainer Tom Taaffe five years ago, hitting the mark three times at Grade Two level.

After winning the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park in 2014, Argocat ran perhaps the best race of his career to finish a close third in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree, but results have been largely disappointing since and connections are hoping a move to Lambourn will turn his fortunes around.

He could make his first competitive appearance since last June in either the Betfred Mobile Heroes Handicap Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday or the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle at Musselburgh 24 hours later.

Alex Cole, racing manager for the owner Fitri Hay, said: " We just decided to give him a change of scenery.

"The Hays have still got horses with Tom and always had a couple of horses with Nicky.

"He hasn't been with Nicky long and it's one last throw of the dice with him.

"I've no idea where he'll run. He's entered at Sandown and Musselburgh, so we'll see."
