Kadrizzi delivers at Chelmsford for Dean Ivory

Kadrizzi ensured his second visit to Chelmsford ended in victory after he got up close home in the totequadpot Conditions Stakes to secure his place in the All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield on Good Friday.

Although only fifth on his previous start at the Essex track, the Dean Ivory-trained gelding followed up a recent Lingfield success with a slender victory in the five-furlong heat which was the penultimate qualifier for the Unibet 3 Year Old Sprint Championship.

While the race only had four runners, it was not short of drama as odds-on favourite Gracious John proved almost unmanageable upon exiting the stalls, charting a wide path in a move which would prove costly.

After racing close to the pace throughout, Kadrizzi ( 7-2) joined early leader Field Of Vision late on before he emerged on top by half a length, with the wide-running Gracious John charging home in third.

Winning rider Robert Winston said: "The horse has gone from strength to strength and is improving with every run.

"He is really a six-furlong horse, but they went a good gallop and his stamina came through in the end.

"I think Lingfield is the plan. I'm not sure if Dean has got anything pencilled in between but I imagine he would go straight for the big one."

Joe Tuite, trainer of runner-up Field Of Vision, said his inmate will have another run before heading to Lingfield on Good Friday.

He said: "Fair play to the winner, who seems to be improving, but I thought we had that one today. He needs to have one more run to go to Lingfield on Good Friday so he will head to Wolverhampton next month."

Gracious John's rider John Egan pinpointed his defeat on a failure to handle the course.

He said: "The track didn't suit. It was too hard for him and he hated it. "
