Victoria Pendleton heads to Wadebridge to continue riding experience

Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton is set to continue her education at Wadebridge point-to-point this weekend with her dream of riding at the Cheltenham Festival now looming large.

Pendleton, who claimed gold medals at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, has set her sights on riding in the St James's Place Foxhunter Chase.

She has come a long way since falling off in a Flat race in the summer and the progress she has made in recent weeks has staggered even champion trainer Paul Nicholls, who was in attendance at Milborne St Andrew last Sunday when she nearly registered her first win.

Riding the former Nicholls inmate Pacha Du Polder, owned by Andy Stewart and trained by Chloe Roddick, she was beaten just a head.

Nicholls has intimated hunter chases at Haydock on February 20 or options at Ludlow shortly after could be her next step.

As for this weekend, her mount will be the 14-year-old Working Title, formerly trained by Nicky Henderson.

Betfair have backed Pendleton's 'Switching Saddles' challenge and spokesman Barry Orr said: "Victoria is due to ride Working Title this weekend in Wadebridge and suitable hunter chase races are being considered by the team, but the immediate priority is to continue gaining experience in point-to-points."
