Willie Mullins set to chart direct Cheltenham route with Annie Power

Annie Power appears increasingly likely to head straight to the Cheltenham Festival for a second tilt at the OLBG Mares' Hurdle.

Willie Mullins' brilliant mare was set to seal a memorable day for the champion trainer in the Grade One last March, only to suffer a now-infamous fall at the final flight.

Last season she lined up after being off the track since Punchestown the previous spring and is poised to follow the same path.

Patrick Mullins, assistant to his father, said: " Annie is 100 per cent. Ruby (Walsh) rode her work (Thursday morning) and was very happy with her.

"I think it looks like she'll probably go straight to Cheltenham. I think time would be running out to get a run into her.

"That's not 100 per cent confirmed, but I would imagine she'll go straight to Cheltenham."

Annie Power also has the option of running in the World Hurdle, a race in which she was narrowly denied by More Of That in 2014, but Mullins jnr expects her take the "easier option".

"The World Hurdle is a very tough race and to go there on your first run of the season would be very difficult," he told At The Races.

"I think if you're going there on your first run of the season you take the easier option, which would be the mares' race.

"That would look the logical way to do things, I would think."
