Smart Flat performer Scarlet Dragon is on course to make his debut over jumps in the Sky Bet Dovecote Novices' Hurdle at Kempton Park on Saturday.

While there are some other decent former Flat stars entered, none have been rated as high as Scarlet Dragon's mark of 109.

He has left Eve Johnson Houghton to join Alan King and has also had a wind operation since his last run on the level.

"He's a definite runner and Wayne Hutchinson rides him. It's exciting," said owner Henry Ponsonby.

"We intended to run him at Newbury 10 days ago, but I'm glad we didn't given how the ground was.

"He's got a lot of class. Alan said he doesn't have many horses rated that high on the Flat, but that his class shows through in all his work and his schooling.

"There won't be many runners, I'd have thought, but one is always nervous before a race like this.

"There are a few in there who were rated over 100 on the Flat, but that's why we're running in a £30,000 race and not a £3,000 one because if you've got a decent horse, you may as well aim high.

"He's been hobdayed, which is why he is coming out so late, and given he was beaten a head in the September Stakes before the wind op, well, he could improve a stone."
