To mark the publication of the 57th edition of the Bloodstock Sales Review, we have compiled a top ten of the most profitable British and Irish-based yearling sires of last year. We have worked out each sires’ profitability index by dividing their 2021 yearling average by their covering fee of 2019, when the offspring in question were conceived.

In ninth place...
Time Test
2021 yearling ave: 45,845gns/€53,913
2019 covering fee: £8,500
Profitability index: 5.66

Time Test made a fine impression with his first two-year-old runners last year, supplying the stakes winners Rocchigiani, Romantic Time, Tardis and The King’s Horses, as well as the multiple Group-placed filly Sunset Shiraz.

Second-crop yearlings by the National Stud-based dual Group 2-winning son of Dubawi sold like hot cakes last year, for an average of 45,845gns/€53,913 and a high of 400,000gns, paid by Sackville Donald for a half-brother to Epsom and Curragh Oaks third Harlequeen from Ballyvolane Stud at Tattersalls.
