Fakenham and Newcastle cards called off

Fakenham and Newcastle have become the latest victims of the inclement weather in Britain.

The meeting scheduled for Fakenham on Tuesday has been abandoned due to ground conditions.

Some 14 millimetres of rain overnight prompted an inspection by course officials on Monday afternoon, with more rain forecast.

The decision was taken to abandon the meeting because of unsafe and false areas of ground due to excessive rain.

The course tweeted: "Racing tomorrow is abandoned due to excessive rain. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Our next meet is on 28th Jan 2016."

Wednesday's card at Newcastle was claimed by a waterlogged track.

Officials had been due to inspect at 12pm on Monday but made an earlier decision following a further 11 millimetres of rain over the weekend. The course is reported to be waterlogged in places, with further rain a possibility.

Thursday's meeting at Leicester will have to pass an 8am inspection on Tuesday if it is to go ahead.

Both the chase and hurdles tracks are reported to be waterlogged in places following seven millimetres of rain overnight. Further rain is a possibility ahead of the meeting so officials will make a full assessment on their prospects on Tuesday.
