Footpad returned to winning ways in the Ladbrokes Hurdle at Gowran Park.

Sent off at odds of 1-10 against just two rivals, there was never going to be an anxious moment for those tempted by his price.

Trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Ruby Walsh, the four-year-old came home 12 lengths clear of Jazz Ranger, and a date in Grade One company beckons next month.

Mullins said: "He did what he had to do and jumped a little sharper than at Leopardstown.

"He'll run next in the Grade One at Leopardstown (Spring Juvenile Hurdle, February 6)."

When asked if he had been disappointed with his last start, when only third in the Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle at Christmas, Mullins added: "I was. He didn't race properly, but I definitely think he is still a Triumph Hurdle horse.

"We'll see what he does the next day."
