Frozen Ludlow forced to abandon

This afternoon's jumps fixture at Ludlow has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Officials at the Shropshire circuit moved forward their intended 8am course inspection after sub-zero temperatures overnight put the prospect of racing out of reach.

A statement issued by clerk of the course Simon Sherwood read: "We had a frost last night/am today (of) minus 3C on the back of a minus 5C the night before.

"It was minus 1C at 5.30am today but we are only due a steady rise in temperature (2C by 10am).

"W e have some hard frost in the ground in a few places that will not come out in time."
