Gordon Elliott sends Clarcam and Bright New Dawn in pursuit of Moore glory

Gordon Elliott is looking forward to firing a twin assault on the feature event at Fairyhouse on Sunday with both Clarcam and Bright New Dawn dropping in grade for the Underwriting Exchange Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase.

Dual Grade One-winning novice Clarcam has raced almost exclusively in Graded company in 10 starts over fences thus far and will carry top-weight in his first handicap over fences, with leading French jockey Jacques Ricou taking the ride.

Bright New Dawn, who like Clarcam carries the familiar colours of Gigginstown House Stud, has filled the runner-up spot in the Clonmel Oil Chase and the rearranged Hilly Way at Navan on his last couple of starts and Elliott is hopeful of a bold show after booking leading conditional Jack Kennedy for the mount.

"Clarcam is coming back to a handicap and obviously has plenty of weight. The ground wouldn't be ideal for him, but he's in good form and we'll let him take his chance," said the trainer.

"Bright New Dawn has been running well and the ground will definitely suit him better.

"We've got Jack Kennedy taking 5lb off his back and the horse is in good form, so he should have a decent chance."

Gigginstown are also represented by Mozoltov, who is one of two runners for Willie Mullins and needs to bounce back from a listless display in last month's Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The champion trainer also saddles Tennis Cap.

Mullins' son and assistant, Patrick, said: " Mozoltov was very disappointing in Cheltenham. He came back with a little bit of an overreach, which maybe happened early in the race as the run was just too bad to be true. We know that couldn't have been his running.

"His work has been good since, he's not the most natural of jumpers, but we're looking for a much improved performance.

"We think he's better than his mark, so hopefully he'll run a big race.

"Tennis Cap is in good form and has a nice weight. He should improve from his last run and hopefully we're going there with two strong chances."

Days Hotel was third 12 months ago for in-form trainer Henry de Bromhead and is backed to do well again by regular partner Andrew Lynch.

"He's been running well this season and will love the ground," said Lynch.

"He was third in the race last year, so he'd have to have a chance and Henry's horses seem to be flying at the moment.

"Hopefully it keeps going that way and this horse should be bang there."

Other contenders in a wide-open contest include the Sandra Hughes-trained pair of Nearly Nama'd and Guitar Peter as well as Draycott Place from John Ryan's stable.
