Ian Williams tunes up Jam Session for Aintree

Ian Williams believes the Champion Standard Open NH Flat Race at Aintree could be the ideal test for Jam Session.

Although he has not ruled out a run in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in March, the Alvechurch handler believes the Grade Two contest the following month on Merseyside could be a more suitable target for the four-year-old.

Jam Session won first time at Doncaster in November and stepped up on that effort when finishing a close second in a Listed contest at Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

Williams said: "We've been delighted with Jam Session and he will stay in bumpers this year.

"He has not been in training a long time but he has progressed very quickly.

"We were very taken by his run at Cheltenham and he probably just lacked that little bit of experience having travelled well, which was great to see.

"He is possibly more of an Aintree bumper horse judging by the pace he has shown, although we are not ruling out Cheltenham.

"He has got a good margin of improvement to come and the better ground in the spring will help him, too.

"He is very promising."
