Jim Best to seek Haydock compensation for Gas Line Boy

Jim Best is looking for some form of redemption in the Betfred Grand National Trial at Haydock on February 20 for the unfortunate Gas Line Boy.

The 10-year-old was having his first run for new connections and seemingly had everything else in trouble when he got in tight to the open ditch five fences from home and unseated Brian Hughes.

"I was devastated, he still had his ears pricked," said Best.

"He looked to be enjoying himself and no sooner had I thought that we were at least going to be involved in the finish, then he got in tight and got rid of Brian.

"Brian felt he was still on a tight rein and hadn't asked him a single question.

"If there's a saving grace it is that he fell five out and you wouldn't think the handicapper can touch him.

"We're thinking of the Grand National Trial next - he obviously likes Haydock having won there before.

"He was in such good form and obviously likes to be fresh and we can just hope he's in the same form next month.

"He might be 10 but he's not been over-raced. His form had been a bit in and out but we think we might have found a reason why.

"He came back with a few cuts and bruises but nothing major and it looks like he still might have a big race in him."
