Kadrizzi in frame for Good Friday bonanza after Lingfield strike

Dean Ivory may have unearthed a live contender for the final of the Unibet Three Year Old Sprint Championships on Good Friday after Kadrizzi took the drop back to the minimum trip in his stride with victory in the Bet And Watch Every Race At Unibet Handicap at Lingfield.

Despite being burdened with top weight, the 2-1 joint-favourite made virtually all on his first start over five furlongs to defeat the running-on Kingsley Klarion by three-quarters of a length, adding to his maiden victory gained at Nottingham back in October.

Ivory said: "I thought he would give in, but he came back fighting even though he had top weight. He is only a little horse, but he keeps on improving and pulling it out the bag."

The trainer went on: "He is not bred for five furlongs, but he has done it honestly. We thought he is a seven-furlong horse, but we are coming back instead of going forwards, while I would say he is a better horse on the grass than the all-weather.

"We will just have another look what is in the programme book. We have got the big race here to look at (Three-Year-Old Sprint). Whether we go there or not I don't know, but on that form we would have to look at it."

While some will be glad to see the back of January, that comment does not apply for trainer Ian Williams after he made it seven winners for the month with a double, initiated by the four-length success of Byron Flyer (3-1) in the Coral Median Auction Stakes.

Williams said: "We were worried he would be quite green today, as he was green in his bumper run at Market Rasen.

"It was a great ride from Adam (Kirby) as he took the initiative with two to go and he galloped out well to the line. We didn't really have any intention of running him on the Flat, but opportunities are so limited on reasonable ground at this time of year."

Percella (6-1) completed the brace for the Alvechurch handler when making light work of a change of tactics to land the 32Red.com Handicap over a mile and five furlongs to follow up her course and distance victory eight days ago.

Williams said: "I thought it was tough for her today. We rode her a bit differently as we knew from that inside draw it would be hard for her to come from behind like last time.

"All credit to George Dowling, who has done a great job to put her head in front as the only place she was in front was on the line."

He added: "It has been a great January as we've had seven winners (jumps and Flat), it's a shame about the jumping horses as they are in great form but they are being held up with the ground."

John Best celebrated his first winner of the year as Charlies Mate (4-1) came with a telling late run under Kieren Fox in the Bet Now With The Ladbrokes App Handicap.

Best said: "He won five times last year and to be fair I thought he was starting to be a little bit high in the handicap, but he won well today. He is so versatile as you can run him over any trip between a mile and a mile and a half. I'd like to have 10 like him to train in the yard as he is so easy to deal with."

Stuart Williams reached a quarter of his entire 2015 total when Belle Mare Plage (6-4 joint-favourite) gave him his 10th winner since the turn of the year by wearing down Guapo Bay in the closing stages of the Daily Unibet Early Prices From 9am Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Liam Keniry made his one ride at the track a winning one after getting up on the Conor Dore-trained Fleckerl (20-1) on the line in the Ladbrokes Handicap, while the concluding Download The Ladbrokes App Apprentice Handicap went the way of the William Knight-trained 4-6 favourite Exalted.
