Oliver Sherwood considers Deputy Dan gameplan

Deputy Dan has three options for his next race, including the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las on February 6.

Oliver Sherwood has, for the time being, shelved a chasing career with the eight-year-old, who has finished placed behind Thistlecrack at Newbury and Ascot this season.

As well as the Welsh Champion Hurdle, the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell and the Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock also in the mix for the mud lover.

"The Cleeve Hurdle is unlikely, I'd say," said Sherwood.

"The Rendlesham at Haydock is a definite possibility and there's also a chance we could drop him back in trip for the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las.

"There's even a chance he could run in the National Spirit at Fontwell - it's between those three.

"We still don't know what trip he wants. He's not slow but he loves the really soft ground and you are virtually guaranteed that, and a small field, at Ffos Las."
