Oliver Sherwood hoping The Organist can strike winning note at Leicester

Oliver Sherwood is looking forward to giving The Organist vital experience ahead of bigger targets when she lines-up for the British Stallion Studs EBF Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle at Leicester on Tuesday.

The five-year-old, winner of both her starts over hurdles so far at Huntingdon and Fontwell, faces just three rivals, with the Venetia Williams-trained Tara Flow, who has won two of her four starts over hurdles including over the course and distance, seemingly the main rival.

However, Sherwood is keen to let The Organist take her chance and is not concerned about the prospect of heavy ground.

After this race, the Lambourn trainer intends to run the five-year-old in the Weatherbys GSB Jane Seymour Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Sandown on February 19 before a possible tilt at the Trull House Stud Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

"With due respect to the other two, it looks a two-horse race on paper tomorrow," said Sherwood.

"Mine is a nice mare. She handled the soft ground at Fontwell, so the ground doesn't unduly bother me.

"Whether she's good enough to beat Tara Flow at level weights, we'll know tomorrow.

"It's very difficult for a mare when you've won two. You've got to step up another division or carry a double penalty. Fair play to Leicester, it's a £10,000 added race so it's worth going for.

"The main plan will be a Listed race at Sandown in mid-February for novices which is very much on the cards and then there's the new mares' race at the Festival."

Tom Gretton's Appletree Lane and Stoical Patient from Mark Wall's stable complete the quartet at Leicester.
