Rayvin Black poised to try hand in Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock

Oliver Sherwood is thinking of stepping Rayvin Black up in class for the StanJames.com Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock on Saturday.

The seven-year-old is set to take on the likes of The New One and Peace And Co in the Grade Two heat after going up 9lb to a career-high mark of 146.

The hike in the ratings came courtesy of a clear-cut success in a competitive handicap hurdle at Sandown.

Rayvin Black has an alternative entry in the '40 Years Of Keltbray' Holloway's Handicap Hurdle at Ascot, but Sherwood is leaning towards Haydock.

"He's got nearly top weight at Ascot, but I'm seriously going to have a look at the Haydock Champion Hurdle Trial because there's probably only going to be half a dozen runners," said the Lambourn trainer.

"We haven't made a decision yet, but I'd say he'd be more likely to go to Haydock than to Ascot. He's very tough."
