Richard Johnson on Garde for Ludlow landmark

Champion jockey-elect Richard Johnson will be reunited with Garde La Victoire as he continues the chase for his 3,000th career success under National Hunt Rules at Ludlow on Tuesday.

Johnson needs just one more winner to reach the landmark number of victories and leading Cheltenham Festival contender Garde La Victoire is certain to be a short price in the Racing UK Winter Season Ticket Novices' Chase.

Philip Hobbs' charge was last seen when winning a Grade Two event at Cheltenham in November and connections are keen to get in two more outings before March.

Johnson said in his Betway blog: "I'm off to Ludlow tomorrow and I'm excited about being reunited with Garde La Victoire.

"He's in great form at home and the plan is simply to get more experience into him ahead of Cheltenham.

"All being well, tomorrow's run will be one of two before the Festival, meaning he can still go there a fresh horse.

"As for whether he lines up in the Arkle or the JLT, I suppose time and, more importantly, the ground will decide that."

Garde La Victoire faces just four rivals in the two-mile event, with Albert Bridge, Beallandendall, Doctor Harper and Gino Trail in opposition.
