Tombstone poised to swerve Punchestown weekend date

Tombstone appears likely to skip an engagement at Punchestown on Sunday and instead wait for the Deloitte Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown on February 6.

The Gordon Elliott-trained six-year-old was last seen going down by three-quarters of a length to Long Dog in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at the Dublin track over Christmas.

Elliott remains convinced he has a good horse on his hands and a rematch with Long Dog in the Deloitte is on the cards, despite Tombstone's weekend entry in the INH Stallion Owners European Breeders Fund Novice Hurdle.

Tombstone is owned by Gigginstown House Stud, whose racing manager Eddie O'Leary said: "I'll speak to Gordon, but I imagine he'll run at Leopardstown on Saturday week."
