Charlie Appleby has hinted that Emotionless is likely to face an ease in class on his next start with the Thoroughbred Stakes at next month's Qatar Goodwood Festival a potential target.

In a bid to try and restore some confidence back into the three-year-old the Newmarket handler is considering running him in the Group Three prize.

After bypassing the 2000 Guineas the son of Shamardal, who suffered a knee injury after trailing home last in the Dewhurst Stakes in October, finished fifth on his first start of the season in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Appleby said: "We felt he was not right for the Guineas and we were happy we didn't run there.

"Going into the St James's Palace Stakes, taking on three Guineas winners, we knew he was not going there to have an easy race.

"I was happy enough with him but William (Buick) was not happy with conditions being as soft as they were.

"He travelled into the race okay but he was hanging a bit on that ground. He didn't drop away which I was pleased to see.

"He has come out of the race well and maybe we might just look at the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood for him as it is one of the last chances for him as a three-year-old to compete against his own age group.

"It could just be that a drop back in calibre gives the horse the chance to get his head in front and help his confidence."
