Roger Varian hoping Nezwaah can graduate to the top rank

Roger Varian believes Nezwaah could develop into a leading filly after she took Listed honours at Newcastle on Friday.

The Dubawi filly swept to a three-length victory over More Mischief in the Hoppings Stakes on the newly-laid Tapeta surface to make it three wins from just four career starts.

Her only defeat so far came in a similar contest on turf at Newbury where she was a creditable third to We Are Ninety and though Varian has no firm plans yet for the daughter of Dubawi, he expects her to take high order in the fillies' ranks.

"She's a filly we've always held in high regard and the form of her Newbury run is starting to work out," said the Newmarket trainer.

"Sir Michael Stoute's filly (Queen's Trust) ran very well in the Ribblesdale and she was just behind her (in fourth) that day.

"I think Nezwaah will go from strength to strength. It will be interesting to see how she develops through the summer. She could end up a top filly.

"We'll just play it by ear for the next week or so. She ran on Friday night and didn't get back until Saturday night.

"We'll check her condition through this coming week before making any firm plans.

"It was encouraging that she won. She would have learned quite a lot. It was a run race early on.

"She came through to be a convincing winner and can only improve."
