Kelso fixture subject to morning inspection

This afternoon's high-profile meeting at Kelso is subject to an 8am inspection after the track was hit by heavy rain overnight.

The Borders circuit is due to stage a six-race card including the Grade Two totescoop6 Premier Kelso Hurdle and the totepoolliveinfo.com Premier Chase, with the latter set to feature last year's Grand National hero Many Clouds.

However, the course is waterlogged in places and clerk of the course Anthea Morshead is concerned.

She said: "We had 16 millimetres of rain overnight, which is more than we were expecting, and the track is waterlogged in some areas.

"We need to give ourselves the time to see if we can change the racing line as there are parts of the track we're due to race on and I don't think we'll be able to.

"The problem we've got is we've been racing on heavy ground all season, we've saved the best of the ground for today and we're running out of options.

"We're dry at the moment, but there is further rain forecast for later in the morning.

"We'll do our very best to get the meeting on, but we want to make an early call to save people having to make a wasted journey if it's a complete non-starter."
