Shotavodka proved a well-backed and comprehensive winner of the Betway Supporting Greatwood Veterans' Handicap Chase at Newbury.

The son of Champion Hurdle hero Alderbrook moved with menace throughout the three-and-a-quarter-mile contest, and all the way up the home straight Tom Scudamore held the cards on the 7-1 shot.

Taking dead aim at long-time leader Pete The Feat, the combination bounded clear approaching the final fence and came home 11 lengths clear, with Masters Hill back in third.

Pipe said: "He has a big heart and has been an absolute superstar.

"He's not going to Cheltenham. He'll stick to veterans' chases and may go to Ascot next."

Howaboutnever gave amateur Harry Teal a first win over jumps when he came home a fortuitous winner of the Betfair Supporting Greatwood Veterans' Handicap Hurdle.

The 12-1 shot took advantage of the fall at the penultimate flight of 4-1 market leader Rock Gone, who had gone to the front and looked to be cantering at the time.

Rock Gone's jockey Aidan Coleman suffered a nasty-looking landing and was stood down for the remainder of the afternoon by the racecourse doctor.

Howaboutnever, trained by Harry's father, Roger, was then challenged by Spice Fair but the former kept on strongly to score by a length and a half.

Roger Teal said: "I had three horses in mind at the Ascot sales but he was the only one I could afford.

"Harry had his first win on the Flat 10 days ago and this is his first over jumps."
