A frustrating day for trainer Oliver Sherwood changed tack when The Organist ran out an impressive winner of the BetBright Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster.

Grand National winner Many Clouds had a wasted trip up to Kelso but Sherwood rerouted, as did stable jockey Leighton Aspell and the five-year-old powered away up the straight.

Racing over three miles for the first time, she survived two bad blunder at the last two flights to beat Briery Belle by three lengths.

"She's as good as any mare I've ever trained," said Sherwood.

"I think her mistakes were down to just being lonely, she had the race won turning in.

"I blame myself for her getting beaten last time, she wanted to step up in trip, not back.

"Her previous connections in Ireland are convinced she will be better still on decent ground which was one of the reasons we came here.

"As she's owned by Million In Mind (syndicate) I just hope I keep her next year."
