Veteran sprinter Take Cover is likely to be aimed at the Temple Stakes at Haydock before a third outing in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Despite his advancing years, the nine-year-old showed he is no back number with a close-up fifth on his seasonal return in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Trainer David Griffiths is now looking at the five-furlong Group Two prize at Haydock on May 21 as Take Cover's next target.

The South Yorkshire handler said: "Take Cover run a cracker but he didn't quite handle the dip - i f he had have handled it he would have probably nearly won.

"If the ground was a bit quicker that might have helped, too.

"I am delighted with him and he has come back great. There are other races he can run in which we might consider, but the Temple Stakes is the obvious race before the King's Stand.

"He has shown he retains all of his ability and, with a bit of luck on really good, quick ground, hopefully he might have another good race in him."
