breeding

The Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Select May Sale takes place on Thursday 26th May and begins at 1pm. This sale has seen notable increases over the last few seasons and this years catalogue is already building for another strong renewal.

Supported by all the leading vendors this is the only sale in May which is exclusively Select for NH horses and the quality in the 40 Lots already catalogued is stronger than ever.

Wildcards will continue to be taken up to the time of sale with a similar catalogue size to last season expected where approximately 50 horses were offered.

Denis Murphy has a very strong draft including Lough Derg Spirit who is a recent Athlacca Winner by Westerner and a half brother to four winners including Sizing Machine and from the family of Feathered Leader. Minella Rebellion whom he trains for John Nallen is an own brother to Balthazar King while The Wicket Chicken won her maiden at Dawstown.

Colin Bowe is a strong supporter of the Cheltenham May Sale every year and has no less than six select entries this season also. Lost Frequency (Half brother to eight winners), Benechenko (Out of an own sister to Macgeorge) and One Forty Seven are all four year old maiden winners with a big future. Winning mares Caseys Oscar and Milan Express both won above average maidens while Rare Conor although the only maiden of the draft is closely related to Our Conor and ran a cracker when second at Athlacca beaten just a head.

Donnchadh Doyle will offer his towering Athlacca four-year-old maiden winner Secret Investor who is a son of Kayf Tara out of the high class racemare Silver Charmer. Enniscoffey Oscar is a last fence faller who will be of interest to many and is out of an Old Vic mare while his brother Sean Doyle is responsible for the impressive Ballindenisk four-year-old maiden winner Searching For Gold.

Declan Queally's recent Curaheen winner Rocky’s Treasure is a half brother by Westerner to Double Shuffle who recently gained black type and is an exciting sort.

Tom Lacey and Jack Barber bring UK point to point form as does Mike Hammond. Boagrius is by Beneficial out of the high class Greenhall Rambler. Tangley is out of an own sister to Acambaro and Snuff Box is unbeaten on his only start.

Some other interesting lots include Dermot McLoughlin’s winning Court Cave mare Court Adjourned who won a maiden with plenty of depth in the second third and fourth and did so on her debut at Broughshane. Jonathan Sweeney is a name to take note of and he offers Lighthouse Warrior who is by Milan out of a Germany mare and closely related to Belvederian. This chasing type will catch the eye of many. Agent Boru for Gary McGill is a horse with a lot of speed as can be seen in his recent Taylorstown win and Colin Motherway has two nice individuals in Rebel Yeats and Go Another One.

Bumper form includes Nigel Slevin's Down Royal four-year-old bumper winner Third Estate, Lillian who won a maiden hurdle by 28 lengths on her most recent start for Seamus Mullins and also Peter Fahey's Miss Tynte who was second in a Punchestown festival bumper on her debut where 23 ran. She is out of an own sister to Simply Dashing and was only beaten by the high class Stretchingthetruth. Middlebrow won his bumper recently at Ballinrobe and Liz Doyle has an excellent record at selling top sorts at this venue.

Karl Thornton's Shanroe In Milan; Denis Ahern's One More Hero; Ian Power's Coroners Report and Mick Goff's Clondaw Shane are others amongst a very strong catalogue of pointers and form horses.
