Run Ructions Run makes winning chase debut for Tim Easterby at Wetherby

Run Ructions Run came out on top in a fascinating beginners' chase at Wetherby when seeing off Kaki De La Pree and Milansbar.

Tim Easterby's mare ran several good races over hurdles last season, most notably when second at the Betfair Chase meeting at Haydock, and scored at Listed level the season before.

She never quite hit the heights expected of her after that but in making a winning seasonal return in the Last Day Racing UK Free Trial Beginners' Chase, the 11-4 chance could take quite high rank in her new discipline.

Kaki De La Pree, beaten a length, adds substance to the form having been placed in graded company last season, but Milansbar was arguably unlucky as, having jumped for fun at the head of affairs, he still held an advantage at the last when a jolting mistake stopped him in his tracks.

Run Ructions Run quickened up as best she could in the heavy ground, providing Brian Hughes with his eighth winner in six days.

Peter Easterby, the trainer's father, said: "Brian had to hold on to her for as long as he could, as she can be quite tricky and think she's done enough once she hits the front.

"I don't think she wants the ground as bad as that, so she's done well to win. She's really filled out and strengthened up over the summer."

Neil King was obviously disappointed Milansbar's only mistake came at the last.

"The fences are there to be jumped, but other than that he did everything very well," he said.

"He jumped like an old hand, like he does at home, and I'll try to find another little race for him somewhere."

Maurice Barnes deserves credit as Indian Voyage (3-1) has bounced right back to his best having seemingly lost his way.

Having fallen down the handicap, he got back to winning ways last time out at Kelso and won off a career-high mark in the Last Day racinguk.com/freetrial Handicap Chase without coming off the bridle in the hands of Daragh Bourke.

"I think he hurt his neck when he fell here last season as something wasn't right. It took him a long while to get over it but he is now," said Barnes.

"He's got plenty of boot and jumps like a stag. We might have a look at the Castleford back here at Christmas."

Richard Johnson continued his relentless chase of a first championship when taking the wetherbyracing.co.uk "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle on the Philip Hobbs-trained Draytonian. Third in a decent race on his hurdling debut, Johnson made every post a winning one on the 4-9 favourite.

"He's a chaser in the making so we'll have no fancy plans this season. After his first run this looked a good opportunity for him to get his head in front and get some confidence. We'll just try to educate him this year," said Johnson.

Mac N Cheese (15-2) won the Book Tickets For Boxing Day Handicap Hurdle for Rose Dobbin and Brian Harding.

Ed de Giles' Akavit (12-1) provided him with a rare winner over jumps when making all the running under David Bass in the Watch Racing UK Free Last Chance Juvenile Maiden Hurdle.

In the same race, Peter Carberry was banned for 12 days (December 9-20 inclusive) by the stewards who ruled he had failed to pull up Rio Falls when his mount appeared to be exhausted. He was tailed off when falling heavily two out.
