Jonjo O'Neill claimed his 2,000th British jumps winner at Uttoxeter as Centuro secured a dramatic victory in the Shottle Hall Juvenile Maiden Hurdle.
Winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup as a trainer and jockey, O'Neill sent just one horse to the Staffordshire circuit, with Centuro a 7-2 chance after finishing well-beaten on his hurdling debut at Ludlow just eight days ago.
The three-year-old improved on that effort in the hands of Aidan Coleman and sat second in the straight behind the pace-setting Red Hot Chilly.
The latter refused to bend under Robbie Dunne and looked likely to hold on after jumping the final flight with a small advantage.
However, as the line approached, Red Hot Chilly began to wander under pressure and Dunne became unbalanced and fell to the ground just a few strides before the line.
His misfortune allowed Centuro to come home two and a half lengths in front of 4-6 favourite Hollywood Road.
