Market holds steady on Day 2 of Arqana October Yearling Sale
The second session of the October Yearling Sale registered figures slightly down from 2015, with two days still to come in the catalogue’s Part II. The aggregate for 89 horses sold (78%) was €2,851,000 (-13%) while the average remained almost stable at €32,034 (-2%) and the median improved from €27,500 to €30,000 (+9%).
Fillies dominated the market with 7 of the top 10 lots being of the fair sex. A daughter of second crop sire Rajsaman (lot 332, pictured) and half-sister to three black type horses easily topped the day’s trading when commanding a final bid of €200,000 from Prime Equestrian’s Didier Reed. Interest was strong from all around the ring with Ghislain Bozo, Sylvain Vidal and Tony Forde among many to try their luck for the half-sister to Gr.3 Prix André Baboin scorer Celtic Rock, L. Prix Miss Satamixa victrix Fresles and Gr.3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up La Pernelle. Quality runs throughout the page, with the third dam being Lunadix, the dam of Linamix and Luna Wells.
Rajsaman is the sire of 10 winners to date including the exciting Brametot, who boasts three wins from four starts including the L. Grand Criterium de Bordeaux last time out, and OTI Management’s Prinz Hlodowig who caught the eye when a fast-closing second to Frankuus in the Gr.3 Prix de Condé.
Already named Compainville, the session-topping filly was offered by Charles Brière’s Fairway Consignment, a fledgling operation launched in 2015 and which has already registered positive results. “She is a beautiful filly with a fantastic page and Brametot has done a lot to advertise Rajsaman’s merits as a sire, commented Brière. I am delighted to be selling my first session topper, which is obviously an important milestone for a young consigner.”
A daughter of Haras du Quesnay resident Motivator (lot 293) was the pick of Jeremy Brummitt at €90,000. The late April foal is a half-sister to High Dynamite, a son of another Quesnay resident in Kentucky Dynamite who filled the runner-up spot in the Gr.3 Prix Noailles last season before being exported to Australia. The family traces back to Irish St. Leger Gr.1 victor Jukebox Jury and Grand Prix de Paris scorer Soleil Noir.
Two daughters of Classic-winning sires in Le Havre and Authorized dead-heated for third place at €67,000. The latter was first in the ring (lot 235) and is a half-sister to two black type performers including this year’s L. Cheshire Oaks third Diamonds Pour Moi. Offered by Pierre Talvard’s Haras du Cadran, she was knocked down to Tina Rau. Jim McCartan was the successful bidder for the daughter of leading French sire Le Havre (lot 273), who was brought to the ring by Eric Lhermite’s Haras de Grandcamp.
