Racecard & Publications Coordinator

If you are a quick learner with a keen eye for detail and a passion for horse racing, this role will help develop your publishing skills and knowledge of the Sport of Kings.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key role in producing racecards for all 59 British racecourses, as well as Irish, International and Point-to-Point fixtures.

Comprehensive training will be provided, equipping you with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to succeed from the outset. The role offers a clear and structured career pathway, recognising your development and progression as you build your expertise, with the opportunity to work towards producing racecards for some of Britain’s most prestigious race meetings.

As your experience grows, there will also be opportunities to contribute to the production of other publications created by the department, including the Weatherbys Desk Diary.

A genuine interest in horse racing and experience with InDesign would be advantageous, but the most important qualities are a strong eye for detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve shared goals.

Key Responsibilities

• To undertake the required racecard copy preparation, proof reading, pagination and checking. Ensuring that the work carried out is checked according to the individual job bag for that racecourse, to update these details on the master copy as and when necessary and ensure all work undertaken is as thorough and as accurate as possible and completed within the agreed timescales to meet the required delivery to the racecourse.

• To ensure each individual racecourse's data is kept up to date with the most recent racecard copy and

ensure the removal of any outdated files from the course directories.

• To liaise with racecourse personnel, advertisers, and sponsors in an efficient and professional manner, ensuring that all requirements for each racecard have been completed prior to the morning of the overnight declarations.

• To liaise closely with other areas in the Printing Services department to ensure continuity of service is always maintained.

• To ensure that each Racecard pagination plan is the most cost effective to produce for both Weatherbys and the racecourse and ensuring that racecourses are fully aware of the pagination of their Racecard on a meeting-by-meeting basis.

• To promote additional products produced by the department including pre-printed covers, personalised racecards and Owners & Trainers personalised swing badges.

• To ensure that all internal housekeeping is maintained to include the sign of off proofs, job marked as completed, correct and timely data supplied to printers, time recording tools completed and Out of Office set when on annual leave or lieu.

• To display an appropriate level of competence in all aspects of racecard compilation and be conversant and compliant with all racecard procedures in place within the area.

• To research and write editorial content as and when required, including the sourcing of images from predetermined image libraries.

• To assist with proof reading and checking of content for any job produced by the Commercial Operations department.

• To provide support to other areas of the department as and when required.

• To ensure that the companies regular IT compliance sessions are completed on schedule.

• To ensure that the companies Health and Safety policy is adhered to.

• Good knowledge of Horse Racing and to keep up to date with industry changes.
