Lamar continued her good form on the all-weather with a gutsy performance in the 32Red FilliesĀ“ Conditions Stakes at Wolverhampton.

Racing over seven furlongs, a distance short of her optimum, Luke Morris began to get to work approaching the three-furlong pole after Maggie Pink and Skinny Love had taken the nine-runner field along in the fast-track qualifier for All-Weather Championships Finals Day.

Kicking on straightening for home, the James Morris-trained four-year-old maintained what was a couple of lengths advantage for much of the final furlong, before beginning to idle and finding Kyllachy Queen finishing with a real rattle.

The line came in time, however, and the 3-1 winner held on for a half-length success.

South African import Cold As Ice was sent off the even-money favourite on her first start for William Haggas, but after travelling strongly for much of the way she was just run out of the places, with Alfajer in third.

Morris said: "She's as tough as nails, she was only beaten a short head by Grendisar over a mile and a quarter at Lingfield earlier in the year so I was keen to draw the sting out of the others and get first run.

"I committed her soon enough to get first run, as I knew she'd gallop through the line.

"She was just a bit lonely in front towards the end, but fair play to her she stuck her head down."
