Non-Pedigree registrations
It has been a legal requirement for all equines to be issued with a passport since February 2005. This includes all breeds of horses and donkeys.
Weatherbys is an authorised Passport Issuing Organisation, and provides passports for animals of unknown or unverified pedigree. If a horse already has a passport, it is illegal to apply for another passport. Please note the Weatherbys ID Passport Service is NOT a racing or breeding register.
In order to apply for a Weatherbys ID Passport, please download, complete and return the ID Passport Application form below.
According to law, applications for equine passports can only be accepted for microchipped animals. All markings submitted must be signed by a vet.
Passport applications received later than six months from the horse’s birth, or the end of the calendar year can be processed but the Weatherbys ID Passport issued must be marked “Replacement” under law and the horse signed out of the human food chain at issue.
It is a requirement under law to register a change of ownership with Weatherbys within 30 days of acquiring a horse. For animals with Weatherbys ID Passports or British Horse Database Passports please download, complete and return the ID Passport Change of Ownership form below with the horse’s passport and the required fee.
The owner must apply for a duplicate passport if the original has been lost.
In order to apply for a duplicate Weatherbys ID Passport if the original is lost, please download, complete and return the Duplicate ID Passport form below with the indicated fee.
In order to make any amendments to the horse’s passport, e.g. change of address, change of horse colour, gelding notification, etc. please return the passport to us with an accompanying letter detailing the required amendment and the fee of £15.
It is a legal requirement to advise us within 30 days when your horse dies and return the passport to us. As per the legislation, the passport will be invalidated. Please note that the date of death will need to be provided.
Weatherbys' passports for horses that are deceased should be returned to: Weatherbys ID Passports, Sanders Road, Wellingborough, Northants NN8 4BX. There is no charge for this service, and they can be returned once invalidated.
